SEBASTIAN CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY
Next Sebastian Citizens Police Academy begins Thursday, January 16, 2014
What is it?
The Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is, a no-cost to you, twelve (12) week program designed to provide a working knowledge and background of the Sebastian Police Department. This program is intended to foster a closer relationship between our agency and the community. It provides an avenue for community involvement and provides first hand experience of policing.
The Citizens Police Academy is intended to develop a harmonious working relationship between members of the community and law enforcement while at the same time opening a mutually supportive avenue for communication. It is an opportunity for citizens to learn more about their local law enforcement, ask questions, and gain a more thorough understanding of the inner workings of the Sebastian Police Department. The academy is also a means for participants and police personnel to share information and ideas about the police profession. The academy also provides for improved community/police relationships, enhanced cooperation and reduced stereotyping.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to attend the Academy, and meet all requirements set forth on the application. Individuals 15 to 17 years of age who wish to attend must attend with a parent and restrictions apply. The next Academy will begin on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Classes will take place at the Sebastian Police Department and other selected locations, are scheduled to begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and will be two to three hours long depending on the course topic.
Class size is limited to 30 people. We encourage you to complete and submit your application as soon as possible. Applications are available at the Sebastian Police Department. For more information please contact Community Policing Specialist Officer Steve Marcinik at 589-5233, extension 8576.
